Officials sponsor traffic meeting
The San Jose Department of Transportation (DOT) and San Jose District 6 City Councilman Ken Yeager invite the public to the Hicks Avenue/Hamilton Way neighborhood traffic calming meeting at the Willow Glen High School cafeteria, 2001Cottle Ave., Oct. 8, 78:30 p.m.
Participating in the discussion will be representatives from the San Jose Police Department and the DOT. Discussions will be on traffic-calming measures, both those currently in existence and recommendations for future measures.

Golfers wanted for children's health
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage invites golfers to a tournament benefiting Gaucher Disease research.
The sixth annual Gregory Austin Macres Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 10 beginning at 10 a.m. The event is open to all golfers at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, 23600 McKean Road.
The money raised will fund a donation to the Children's Gaucher Research Fund, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to coordinate and support research aimed at finding a cure for the disease and to support families who have children battling this disease. Gaucher Disease is a progressive debilitating genetic disease that attacks children, causing a variety of systemic and neurological medical complications.
The tournament will be a four-player scramble. Prizes will be offered for tee, closest to the pin, raffle and tournament winners.
The organization has recently secured two hole-in-one prizes: a new Lexus, donated by Magnussen Lexus of Fremont, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Scotland, donated by Maita-Saviano Public Relations, based in Fremont. A raffle and auction slated for the event are also drawing a wide variety of interesting prizes from area businesses and individuals.
Registration for the tournament begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun tee-off at noon. Lunch will be served 10 a.m. to noon. A cocktail reception featuring a silent auction will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Dinner, prizes, awards and a raffle drawing will follow, beginning at 7 p.m.

University women host open house
The San Jose branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is inviting local women to attend its open house on Oct. 12 between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at its headquarters, 1165 Minnesota Ave.
Phil Cosentino of J&P Farms will give a presentation about Santa Clara Valley's agricultural affluence.

Willow Glen holds community blood drive
A community blood drive will be held Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Jamba Juice, 1140 Lincoln Ave.
The Stanford Medical School Bloodmobile is working with Brian Crane and Shari Ocampo from Alain Pinel Realtors to encourage people to register as blood donors.
Community members interested in donating must be between the ages of 17 and 74 and weigh at least 110 pounds, and be free of cold or flu symptoms.
Each donor will also receive a free cholesterol screening and a Jamba Juice for participating in the event.
