Stayin' Alive: Willow Glen's Carly Silva (15) keeps the ball alive in this match against Westmont. And the Rams are still very much alive in the CCS playoffs, facing Los Altos in the semifinals on Nov. 21.
Rams, Panthers could meet in finals

They're on opposite ends of the bracket, but there's a chance that the girls volleyball teams from Willow Glen and Presentation high schools could square off in the Central Coast Section (CCS) Division 3 playoffs—and they'd like nothing better than to do just that.

Because for the Rams and Panthers to get together in the playoffs, it would have to be in the CCS title match on Nov. 23, 2 p.m., at West Valley College in Saratoga.

Of course, Los Altos and Sacred Heart Cathedral may just have something to say about that title match-up.

Presentation will face Sacred Heart on Nov. 21, 6 p.m., at Valley Christian High School in the CCS Division 3 semifinals, and Willow Glen will meet Los Altos two hours later on the same floor. The winners of the two matches play for the section championship.

The Panthers, the No. 1 seeded team in the division, earned a place in the semifinals with a quick 15-7, 15-2, 15-6 win over Notre DameBelmont on Nov. 16 at Leland. Katie Turley-Molony hammered home a team-high 21 kills in the win.

The easy three-game sweep pushed the Panthers to 25-7 for the year, while Belmont slipped to 21-15.

The road was a little rockier for the Rams. They outlasted Saratoga 15-13, 15-5, 7-15, 4-15, 15-9 in the best-of-five match. Junior middle blocker Kelsey Roseland buried 24 kills to lead Willow Glen to the hard-earned win.

Willow Glen, seeded No. 6, improved to 25-9 this year with the triumph. Saratoga dropped to 21-6.

Los Altos will take a 22-11 record into the Thursday match with the Rams. The Eagles, the tournament's No. 2 seed, battled South San Francisco for five games before winning 15-3, 15-11, 10-15, 7-15, 15-8 in the quarterfinals.

Sacred Heart Cathedral, 14-14 for the year and the tourney's No. 5 seed, beat Palo Alto 11-15, 15-3, 15-7, 15-5 to advance to Thursday's match with Presentation.

Girls tennis

The doubles team of Stephanie Mansfield and Caitlin Hannon will open CCS play on Nov. 25, noon, at the Courtside Tennis Club in Los Gatos.

Mansfield and Hannon finished third at the Blossom Valley Athletic League finals to win a berth in the CCS doubles tournament. The pair is unseeded and will play a team from Leland seeded No. 5 in the tournament in the first round.

Football

Willow Glen secured a winning league season with a 34-16 victory over Mt. Pleasant on the final day of the regular season. The Rams finished the year 3-2-1 in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League and ended up 4-4-1 overall.

Senior quarterback Justin Johnson threw for more than 150 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Alex Green.

Running backs Frank Sarinana, Steve Lopez and Robert Campos each capped their senior season by scoring a touchdown, and junior back Lalo Garces also had a short run for a TD.

Junior kicker John Gibilisco kicked four extra points in the win.
