Globetrotters in SJ

The Harlem Globetrotters will make their annual San Jose visit on Jan. 17 when they play at 7:30 p.m. game at the Compaq Center. The 'Trotters, recent inductees into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, will play a single game in San Jose before playing two games on Jan. 18 at the Oakland Coliseum (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and one on Jan. 20 at the Cow Palace (1 p.m.).

Softball sign-ups

The West Valley Slammers girls softball organization will hold sign-ups for the spring 2003 season on Jan. 4 and 11, 9 a.m.­2 p.m., and Jan. 8, 6:30­9 p.m., in the cafeteria at Bagby Elementary School, Leigh and Curtner avenues in San Jose.

Girls soccer

Soccer training will begin soon for girls in the under-11 age group planning to play in the 2003 spring season. Jorge Espinoza, a soccer professional with more than 20 years of experience, will lead the training sessions that will help girls develop skills to play at every level from recreation to class 1. Lincoln Glen LL

The Lincoln Glen Little League will hold final sign-ups for the 2003 season during tryouts on Jan. 11 and 12, 9 a.m.­2 p.m., at Sam Jones Field in River Glen Park, at the corner of Bird and Pine.

Players must provide a birth certificate and proof of residency (PG&E, water or utility bill). The fee—including photos, trophies and the league fundraiser—is $110 for ages 5­6, $135 for ages 7­12 and $145 for ages 13­16. Players are advised to bring a glove and plan to participate in the tryouts at the sign-ups.

Youth volleyball
