The past few months have been difficult for Willow Glen resident Rosemary Lazetera. Last year, on Dec. 11, her dog, Precious, dug a hole under the fence in her yard and disappeared. Lazetera lives near Newport and Pine avenues.
The same day her dog disappeared, her only remaining uncle passed away and shortly after the loss of her uncle, her father passed away. Now the middle-aged woman has to move out of the house she has lived in since she was 2 years old because of financial difficulties.
"I can't change the fact that my family died or I have to move, but the only thing I can help is finding my dog," says Lazetera, who has been to the Humane Society of Santa Clara County more than 30 times looking for Precious. "She is very friendly with people, and I suspect someone might have taken her. It would help so much to have my dog back."
Lazetera adopted Precious in February 2002.
Precious had dug holes to bury bones and catch gophers but never dug to escape before, says Lazetera, who is an employee of Green Disposal Company Inc. in Los Gatos. Precious was lonely because her roommate's dog, whom Precious usually played with, had had surgery and couldn't play with her.
After Precious was missing for 21/2 months, Lazetera found her collar in the Willow Glen Elementary School parking lot. The collar didn't look like it had been outside very long, she says. Precious is part cocker spaniel and part chow—she has a black tongue—and weighs about 35 pounds. She doesn't have a microchip and is allergic to bees.
"The feeling of not knowing where she is—it is so heartbreaking I just want to put closure to it," Lazetera says. "I can't believe that someone would keep her without trying to find her owner. What a heartache I am going through not knowing what happened to her or if she is hurt or even dead."
Lazetera urges anyone who knows Precious' whereabouts to call her at 408.295.1713.
