Wildcats win

The Willow Glen Wildcats, a girls seventh-grade basketball team in the Willow Glen National Junior Basketball program, won 13 straight games to win the Silicon Valley Area championship.

The Wildcats clinched the crown with a five-point win over Coyote Creek in the title game at Menlo College. With the win, the Cats earned a place in the National Junior Basketball/Reebok National Tournament in Long Beach.

The members of the championship team included Lainey Gera, Nicole Bertolacci, Sarah Schatzman, Megan Blach and Bridget O'Hara from St. Christopher's; Katie Reed from Bret Harte; Jenice DeQuinto from St. Lawrence; Tanisha Bisbee from Davis; and Kristen Santos from St. Mary's (Gilroy). The team was coached by Andy Schatzman and Tamia Weidmann.

Pioneer Stampede

The 10th annual Mustang Stampede Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Pioneer High School Athletic Booster Club, will be held on May 9 at the Santa Teresa Golf Course.

The 144-player field will tee off in a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $150 per player in the four-person scramble tournament.


Youth volleyball

The U.S. Youth Volleyball League is currently holding sign-ups for its eight-week spring program, which will begin April 8 at Kirk Park in San Jose. The instructional league is open to players ages 8­14 and operates in a coed format. For more information, call 888.988.7985 or visit www.usyvl.org.


Scholarship

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting entries from high school juniors and seniors in the annual Art Rosenbaum Sports Writing Scholarship program.

Young journalists can enter sports-related articles published in their high school publications for the chance to win scholarships of $2,500, $1,500 or $1,000.
