Golfers lose two

The Willow Glen golf team lost for the first time in the league season, then lost again last week.

Nick Barreto was two-over par with a 32, but the Rams lost 144-147 to Del Mar at the Deep Cliff Golf Course.

The Rams lost again to the Dons, this time 173-194 at Cinnabar Hills, to slip to 8-2 in league play.


Golf tourney

Members of the San Jose Earthquakes, CyberRays and Sharks will be in the field at the first celebrity Silicon Valley Futbol Club Golf Tournament on April 28 at the newly opened Boulder Ridge Country Club in San Jose.

Landon Donovan, Brandi Chastain, Jeff Agoos, Joe Cannon, Teemu Selanne and Vincent Damphousse are among the pro athletes expected to take part in the tourney, which will raise funds for player scholarships, equipment, travel and uniforms for the club.

The entry fee of $160 includes golf, a cart for two, a Texas barbecue and more. The shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Registration is open through April 15. For more information, visit www.svfc.us or call 408.252.4160.


Irish golf tourney

The seventh annual Irish-American Heritage Society Golf Tournament will be held May 12 at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose. Teams of four will open with a shotgun start that Monday, and the winning foursome will claim a 10-day holiday tour of Ireland.

At a cost of $1,500, the Shamrock Foursome golf package includes four rounds of golf, carts, luncheon and an awards dinner buffet. At $2,500, the Emerald Foursome includes everything in the Shamrock package, plus hole sponsorship, a tee sign, recognition and a gift to the society's educational scholarship program. Each Emerald Foursome can select a golfer to participate in the $1 million hole-in-one shootout on Almaden's 165-yard ninth hole.

Pioneer Stampede

The 10th annual Mustang Stampede Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Pioneer High School Athletic Booster Club, will be held on May 9 at the Santa Teresa Golf Course.

The 144-player field will tee off in a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $150 per player in the four-person scramble tournament.


Scholarship

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting entries from high school juniors and seniors in the annual Art Rosenbaum Sports Writing Scholarship program.
