Irish golf tourney

The seventh annual Irish-American Heritage Society Golf Tournament will be held May 12 at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose. Teams of four will open with a shotgun start that Monday, and the winning foursome will claim a 10-day holiday tour of Ireland.

At a cost of $1,500, the Shamrock Foursome golf package includes four rounds of golf, carts, luncheon and an awards dinner buffet. At $2,500, the Emerald Foursome includes everything in the Shamrock package, plus hole sponsorship, a tee sign, recognition and a gift to the society's educational scholarship program. Each Emerald Foursome can select a golfer to participate in the $1 million hole-in-one shootout on Almaden's 165-yard ninth hole.

Proceeds from the tourney benefit youth scholarships and activities in Ireland. For more information, call 408.445.1364.

Pioneer Stampede

The 10th annual Mustang Stampede Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Pioneer High School Athletic Booster Club, will be held on May 9 at the Santa Teresa Golf Course.

The 144-player field will tee off in a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $150 per player in the four-person scramble tournament.

Cat's Hill

The 29th annual Cat's Hill Criterium will return to Los Gatos on May 10. The event, hosted each year by the Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club and sanctioned by the U.S. Cycling Federation, features many of the nation's best amateur and professional riders, who compete on a rugged one-mile road course that covers the back streets of town.

Golfers top Hill

Ryan Radjabi and Will Howsman each took medalist honors last week as the Willow Glen golf team won twice in Santa Teresa Division play. The Rams are now 10-2 in the division.

Radjabi finished with a four-over par 38 at Las Lagos to lead the Rams to a 157-214 win over Andrew Hill, and Howsman came back two days later with a three-over 37 at Spring Valley to drive the Rams to a 160-208 win over Hill.

Willow Glen will face Pioneer in a pair of matches this week. The Mustangs are 12-0 in the division and have already beaten the Rams twice. The teams will meet at The Villages on April 16 and at Santa Teresa on April 17.
