Silicon Valley Community Newspapers, which publishes the Willow Glen Resident in addition to five other community newspapers in Silicon Valley, launches its seventh community paper with the publication of the Rose Garden Resident on May 8.
Publisher/CEO David Cohen said of the addition to the family of community newspapers: "Our model of fiercely local coverage and reasonably priced advertising rates for local businesses has proven successful in the six communities where our newspapers already exist. We're delighted to be able to continue and expand this model into the greater Rose Garden area."
The new paper follows in the footsteps of the Willow Glen Resident in covering a specific San Jose neighborhood. Dale Bryant, executive editor of SVCN and former editor of the Los Gatos Weekly-Times and the Saratoga News, will handle editing duties for the Rose Garden Resident for the time being.
In addition to its seven community newspapers, SVCN also publishes City Times, a legal newspaper. The combined circulation of SVCN's community newspapers is well over 100,000, with a readership of more than 250,000. There are some 55 employees. SVCN also publishes the Campbell Reporter, the Cupertino Courier and the Sunnyvale Sun.
SVCN, at one time a part of Metro Newspapers, became an independent company in December 2001, when Cohen became principal owner and publisher/CEO of SVCN, LLC. The company has its headquarters at 1095 The Alameda, in the heart of the Rose Garden Resident's circulation area. There is also an SVCN office in Los Gatos that houses the staffs of the Weekly-Times and the Saratoga News.
