Buchanan, Goddard star for Rams
By Dick Sparrer
What a difference a year makes, at least for the Willow Glen High School boys swimming and diving team.

The Rams, winless a year ago, posted a 6-1 record this spring to finish first in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. The Willow Glen swimmers backed that up by winning the team title at the league meet.

The Willow Glen girls finished second in the league meet. The Rams were 4-3 in the dual meet season.

"Every student took significant time off of beginning times," said Willow Glen coach Katy Furth, who was assisted this season by Jennifer Hsu and Lindsay Hopkins. "The girls made noteworthy improvements in every event by the end of the season."

Kyle Buchanan and Kyle Goddard were each double winners for the Willow Glen boys at the league finals, and the two joined with Scott London and William Wang on a winning relay team.

Buchanan trimmed five seconds off his previous best team to win the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.22. He also took the 100 butterfly in 1:01.93.

Goddard, meanwhile, sprinted to a win in the 50 free in 24.96 and he took the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.59.

The two joined London and Wang to make up the winning 200 medley relay team. The quartet's first-place mark of 1:52.88 was less than a second off the Central Coast Section qualifying time.

Wang chipped in with a win in the 100 free in 56.34, bettering his previous best of 58.38, and London took the 100 backstroke in 1:09.16. Alex Kane was first in the 500 free in 6:29.69 and Tristan Perotti won the diving event.

In girls competition at the league finals, freshman Christina Okun won the 50 free in 26.96 and Christina Galvan was first in the diving competition.
