Lawn bowls

Helen Brady, Regina Banares and Lynn Truong of the San Jose Lawn Bowls Club joined forces with a pair of Palo Alto players to win the Northern California Women's Fives competition held recently at Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. The quintet won all five of its games.

In local action, the San Jose Lawn Bowls Club is hosting the U.S. Men's Pairs Playdown championship at Bramhall Park, Willow and Camino Ramon streets. Competition began on June 15 and will continue June 21­22. Spectators are welcome.


Officials needed

The Fermar Corporation is looking for high school sports officials for the upcoming fall season. Officials are needed for football, field hockey, soccer, girls volleyball and water polo.

Women's golf

The 61st annual Santa Clara County Women's Golf Championships will return to the area on Aug. 4­5 when tournament play gets under way at the San Jose Country Club.
The tourney attracts county's top women golfers, boasting the lower handicaps. Women who hold a valid golf index and either live in Santa Clara County or belong to a golf club in the county are eligible.

Open badminton

The gym at Willow Glen High School will be open for badminton on Mondays this summer from 4­6 p.m., beginning June 30. The cost is $1 to cover equipment costs and players should bring a racket and wear gym shoes.


Field hockey

Skyland Run

The 11th annual Skyland Mountain Run will be held on June 21, 8:30 a.m., at Radonich Ranch off of Summit Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Events include a 10K run, a 5K run or a 5K walk. There is also a 1K fun run for children under 10.

The early registration fee (before June 14) is $20 for adults and $13 for children and includes a race T-shirt, raffle and pancake breakfast.

Soccer, field hockey, basketball camps for youth

SCU Soccer camps

Santa Clara University will host a series of summer soccer camps for players ages 6­18 this summer.

Camp dates include: July 21­25, residential camp for players ages 9­13; July 28­Aug. 1, residential camp for players ages 14­18; and Aug. 5­8, elite residential camp for players entering their junior and senior years of high school.

Field hockey camp

A girls field hockey camp for beginning players in grades 5­9 will be held June 24­26 at Del Mar High School. The cost is $40 per player for the camp that runs 9 a.m.­noon. Panther camp

The Panther Field Hockey Camp will July 7­11 at Prospect High School. The five-day camp designed to teach incoming freshmen the fundamentals of high school field hockey in a safe, fun and competitive environment.

CyberRays camps

The San Jose CyberRays, the local women's professional soccer team, will host a camp for teams on July 21­24 at West Valley College in Saratoga. Sessions run from 5­6:30 p.m. or 6:30­8 p.m. and the cost is $160 per player (based on a minimum of 12 players per team). There is no charge for coaches.

Basketball camp

The annual West Valley Basketball Camp returns to the college's Saratoga campus this summer with sessions for boys entering the third through ninth grades.

The camps focus on the fundamentals of shooting, passing, ball handling, footwork and much more. West Valley coach Danny Yoshikawa is camp director and Scott Peters in camp coordinator.

The sessions include: boys in the seventh through ninth grades—June 23­27, 9 a.m.­3 p.m. each day, cost $325; and boys in the third through fifth grades—June 30­July 3, 9 a.m.­3 p.m. each day, cost $260.
