The string of victories came to an end for the Willow Glen Yankees in the District 12 Little League Tournament of Champions last week.
The Yanks, major division champions in the Willow Glen Little League, outslugged American Little League 10-8 and Saratoga 13-9 before pounding the Union Pirates 11-1 in the semifinals. But the Yankees lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to the Los Gatos Braves in extra innings the tourney title game.
Chris Henderson tossed five scoreless innings, giving up just four hits and striking out six, and Kellan Barker flipped an inning of scoreless relief to help get the Rams to the seventh inning of a scoreless tie. But Gatos scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win it.
"It was a great Little League game," said Braves manager Steve Zavodnick. "Willow Glen has a very good team and they should be very proud of themselves."
Barker singled twice in the game for the Yankees and Wesley DeBolt singled to round out the three-hit attack for Willow Glen.
Barker had homered twice and Seth Hein fired five strong innings to lead the Yanks to a win over Union in the semifinals.
