Tamien Station project up for public hearing

A public hearing regarding the Alma Bowl/Sprig Electric site development project, associated with the Tamien Station, is tentatively scheduled to take place during the July 23 meeting of the San Jose Planning Commission. The meeting will be held in the council chambers at 801 N. First St. at 6 p.m.

On the agenda is the Initial Study and Negative Declaration of the Tamien Place Residential Development report. Developer Barry Swenson has proposed to build a high-density housing complex at the site on Alma Avenue.

Park day camps takes youth on nature hikes

The Friends of the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens is holding day camps for children through Aug. 23.

The program, called Water Wizards Day camps, is a series of day camps that meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a pair of river- or water-themed Saturday mini-camps on July 19 and Aug. 23.

Adult teachers will guide campers on nature hikes along the Guadalupe River while discussing water awareness, local history and archaeology, worm composting and gardening activities.

The camps meet at Spring Street between Taylor and Hedding streets. Sessions for the two-day camps are from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The mini-camp sessions are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
