Once an iconic concept album, The Who's Tommy is known to most young people as a popular Broadway musical. For those unfamiliar with arena rock, Children's Musical Theater San Jose will introduce the Peter Townsend musical Tommy July 25 through Aug. 3 at the Montgomery Theater in downtown San Jose.
Another generation of fans—recommended ages 10 and up—will sing along to "Pinball Wizard" and "See Me, Feel Me," when CMT comes close to wrapping its 35th season. The group will officially cap off its season with a premiere of Pocket Full of Rhymes Aug. 7 through 10, featuring favorite storybook characters like Humpty Dumpty and Yankee Doodle—a safe bet for children of all ages.
The classic rock opera tells a story of a young boy escaping reality after witnessing a brutal crime, appearing completely deaf, mute and blind. Tommy's senses are awakened in a preGame Boy world through an innate talent for playing video games—triggering the now infamous line, "That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball."
Tickets are $11 to $15. For more information, call the box office at 408.288.5437 or visit www.cmtsj.org.
