St. Elizabeth's changes address; same location

St. Elizabeth's Day Home has changed its address, but the location remains the same. The address is now 950 St. Elizabeth Drive, San Jose, 95126.

The previous address was confusing for emergency responders, delivery drivers and families searching for child care in the Willow Glen area. Apparently, Internet mapping engines placed the old address three blocks west of the day home's actual location. At the urging of the city of San Jose, the day home applied for a number on the street.

The agency's phone number, 408.295.3456, remains the same. For more information, contact David Keller at david@stelizabethsdayhome.org or 408.295.3456.

San Jose Jazz Festival seeks volunteer help

The world's biggest free jazz festival is free for one important reason—some 600 volunteers make it happen. The San Jose Jazz Society has put out a call for volunteers to help in a variety of ways with the annual Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival, scheduled this year for Aug. 810 in downtown San Jose.

More than 150,000 music lovers are expected to descend on the downtown during the popular event, which takes place in and around Plaza de Cesar Chavez. Volunteers are needed in all areas of the festival, including beverages, retail, tickets and staging.

According to jazz society General Director Steve Saperstein: "It's a truly fun event where volunteers get to rub elbows with some of the hottest names in jazz. It's the volunteers who make this event run smoothly."

To volunteer, contact Mary Ellen McCammon, 408.288.7557, ext. 2327, or maryellenm@sanjosejazz.org. More information is available at http://www.sanjosejazz.org.

Tamien Place hearing to be rescheduled

A public hearing with the San Jose Planning Commission scheduled for July 23 regarding the Tamien Place development at West Alma and Lick avenues has been postponed to Aug. 27. The agenda item was to hear a proposal from builder Barry Swenson to rezone the area from Light Industrial to a Planned Development District. The rezoning would allow Swenson to proceed with plans for a housing complex for up to 260 multi-family units.

Concerned residents and community members—a petition with 144 signatures—have filed a protest with San Jose's Department of Planning requesting a postponement to allow more time to explore the issue.

Meeting agendas for the planning commission or for the planning director's hearings are posted on the planning commission's website at http://www.ci.san-jose.ca.us/planning/sjplan. For more information, contact the San Jose Planning Department at 408.277.4576.
