Volleyball sign-ups

The United States Youth Volleyball League is taking sign-ups for its 2003 fall season. The eight-week program will begin on Sept. 9 at Kirk Park in San Jose. USYVL is open to boys and girls ages 8­14. League members will receive an official league volleyball, uniform top, individual medal and equipment upon signing up for the program. Junior golf

Junior Achievement's 14th annual Golf Classic is slated for Sept. 22 at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club. The event, sponsored by FedEx Freight, will offer a full day of food, fun and prizes beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending after 7 p.m.

The Junior Achievement Golf Classic Tournament package includes the golfing fee, golf cart, barbecue lunch, hors d'oeuvres, dinner and awards. Golfers will be awarded for low net scores and low gross scores.

Crush tryouts

The Campbell Crush will hold tryouts for girls 10 and under and girls 12 and under fastpitch teams for the fall season. For more information, call Craig at 408.296.3820.


Play For a Cure

The Play for a Cure Foundation will host its third annual round robin tennis tournament to benefit breast cancer research and the Women's Healthy Eating and Living study conducted at Stanford Medical Clinic. The 2002 Charity Event of the Year, as voted on by The United States Professional Tennis Association, will return to the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club on Sept. 5 from 5-9 p.m.

Activities include tennis with the pros, an exhibition match, a silent auction and food and wine donated by Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell and Willow Glen restaurants.

Players of all levels are welcome and are asked to raise $150 in order to play. Sponsors who wish to join in the fun but not play can do so by donating $25. For more information visit http://www.playforacure.org.


Strikkers tryouts

The Strikkers girls' fast pitch softball team will be hosting fall tryouts at Oak Grove High School for its four age divisions: 18 and under, 16 and under, 14 and under and 12 and under.
