Public to choose book reflecting local issues
The public is invited to submit nominations for a book that best reflects the people and issues of Silicon Valley.
The community-wide reading program, called Silicon Valley Reads: One Book, One Community, was established to promote literacy and appreciation for reading in Silicon Valley.
For a book to be nominated, it should appeal to a diverse audience, reflect universal issues of people in Silicon Valley, be appropriate for adults and youth, be available in paperback or as an eBook and also be available in more than one language. The book's author must be living.
The Silicon Valley Reads program is a joint effort between the San Jose Public Library Foundation and the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Last year was the program's first year, and the two organizations plan to make the program an annual event.
Last year's winner was Breaking Through by novelist Francisco Jimenez.
Nominations can be submitted at the program's website or at ballot boxes located in all San Jose public libraries.
Nominations will be accepted from Aug. 15 through Sept. 12. The top three titles will be selected and the public will vote on the selections. A winner will be announced in November.
