Citywide activity guide compiles information
San Jose residents interested in recreation in their neighborhood need look no further than the first Citywide Activity Guide for information. The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Department compiled a 124-page guide from 40 brochures so residents can use one source to learn about everything the city has to offer.
"Our goal is to include all Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services programs, areas and activities, as well as information from our partnering departments," Director of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Sara Hensley said. The guide provides a listing of 1,273 classes, 114 parks, 42 centers and 210 after-school programs.
The booklet is published quarterly, with future editions including San Jose after-school and senior programs. The city also plans to develop online registration for fee activity classes.
The Citywide Activity Guide is available in Willow Glen at Gardner Center, 520 W. Virginia St., Willows Senior Center, 2175 Lincoln Ave. and the Willow Glen Branch Library, 1157 Minnesota Ave. Or visit www.sanjoseca.gov/prns or call the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services at 408.277.4661.
Windermere donates to nonprofit, InnVision
Sales associates and staff with Windermere Real Estate's Silicon Valley Properties offices teamed up with the Windermere Foundation to donate $11,000 to various Bay Area nonprofit organizations.
One of the nonprofits, Willow Glen-based InnVision, received $2,500 from the organization. The funds donated to InnVision will be used to furnish the new preschool room at the Georgia Travis center. The furnishings will include room decorations, educational games, toys, and arts and crafts supplies.
The foundation is unique in the way it's funded. Every time a Windermere associate sells a home, a portion of the commission is donated directly to the Windermere Foundation. Additional contributions from Windermere agents, managers, owners and staff, as well as the general public, are also accepted. The foundation is an entirely volunteer-run organization, and less than two percent of funds raised are spent on administrative costs.
