SJ Institute of Contemporary Art will soon be cleaned out

The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art will be an empty space come the morning of Oct. 26. But not to worry: that's only because the gallery will be hosting its 23rd annual Fall Auction on the night of Oct. 25. Considering what's on the block that evening--works donated by more than 100 top Bay Area artists--it seems likely that the place will be stripped bare, and that more than 100 lucky art lovers will be responsible.

But it won't be only those with successful bids who come out winners at this auction; with all proceeds benefiting future exhibits and educational programs at SJICA, this annual fundraiser should be a sure "win-win" situation for everyone.

Making the evening that much more festive, auction guests will be served champagne and an array of hors d'oeuvres donated by leading South Bay restaurants.

Throughout the month of October, SJICA offers a chance to scope out the art ahead of the auction, and to catch this impressively diverse collection of artworks, for a short time, all in the same room. The gallery's website, www.sjica.org, also offers a sneak peek at some selections from the exhibit, as well as a complete list of artists who donated pieces.

The exhibit features sculpture, prints, paintings, photography and more. The many works on display include a ceramic rod sculpture by Bean Finneran, a hand-stitched photograph by Oriane Stender, a mixed-media collage by Inez Storer, a chlorophyll print by Binh Danh, and creations by Jaap Bongers, Mark Nobriga, Tracy Snelling and Heather Wilcoxon, among many others.

The annual Fall Auction exhibition will be on display through Oct. 25 at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, 451 S. First St., San Jose. The auction takes place Oct. 25, 6 p.m. Tickets are $35$45. For reservations or more information, call 408.283.8155.
