Coach needed
Brad Sanfilippo has left Willow Glen High School to take over the program at his alma mater, Los Gatos, so the Rams are looking for a new head varsity baseball coach for the 2004 spring season. Interested candidates should call Willow Glen athletic director Peggy Booth at 408.535.6330, ext. 745.
SCU golf tourney
The annual Santa Clara University Bronco Baseball Golf Tournament will return to the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club on Oct. 24. A 12:30 p.m. shotgun start will follow a 10 a.m.noon registration.
The entry fee for the best ball scramble tournament will be $220 ($235 after Oct. 8) and will include green fees, a golf cart, a photo with foursome, range balls, tee prizes, lunch and dinner. The cost for the dinner only is $65.
There are also tee sponsor packages available that include a tee sponsor sign and golf program recognition for $150, $1,000 (also includes tourney entry fee for two, Bronco season passes for two, Bronco Baseball Summer Camp passes for two, throw out the first pitch at a Bronco home game), and $2,000 (also includes all of the same items for four plus a bottle of Silver Oak wine).

Adult tennis
Local players were in action for teams from Los Gatos and Santa Clara competing in the USA League Tennis Adult National Championships to be held over the Oct. 35 weekend.
The Los Gatos women's 2.5 team competed in the national tournament held in Palm Springs. Team members included Allison Pickering, Carol La Marre, Sheryl McCoy, Elizabeth Zientek, Milada Senna, Helen Stone, Mary Bergland, Linda Bostrom, Karen Thiel and Jill Bess of Los Gatos; Barbara Phipps, Lorelei Clement and Chandra Adkins of San Jose; Jackie Lytton of Redwood Estates; Jennie Kennedy of Cupertino; and Maria Sarver of Los Altos.
The Santa Clara men's 3.5 team took part in the national tournament played in Tucson, Ariz. Team members included Ray Jaeger, James Brownell, John Zhuge, Anil Guram and Kirt Iverson of San Jose; Eric Gocka and Mark Wheatley of Sunnyvale; Jerry Marenghi of Morgan Hill; David Nguyen of Cupertino; Bruce Campbell of Santa Clara; Sanjeev Singh of Hayward; and Robert Larson of Mountain View.
