Oct. 25 marked the high point of a yearlong celebration of the bicentennial of St. Joseph Cathedral. Following an interfaith prayer service at the cathedral, some 700 guests gathered in the ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel for the St. Joseph Bicentennial Cathedral Ball, highlighted by dinner and dancing. Approximately $250,000 was raised for the San Jose Cathedral Foundation.

When members of the Professional Wine Society of Santa Clara Valley gathered for dinner Oct. 27 at Seven, the trendy new restaurant on The Alameda, it was all about the pairing of food and wine. Host Bob Gionfriddo worked with the chef to select the proper wines and foods, with pinot noirs the specialty of the night.
