As holiday schedules fill up with cocktail parties, late-night treks to the mall and the crafting of wish lists for Santa Claus, the folks at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph are offering 11 nights of holiday entertainment for all to enjoy. Every evening between Dec. 12 and 23 at 7 p.m., local music groups will offer free concerts to the community.

From opera and jazz to classical piano and high-school choirs, local performing artists include San Jose Youth Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra, San Jose Taiko, San Jose Symphonic Choir You-Sing-It Messiah, Santa Clara Chorale, San José State University Choraliers and the Presentation High School Jazz Choir.

The 8th annual Season of Hope Performance Series will welcome more than 1,000 arts patrons for a slew of free concerts, aimed to bring a sense of peace and goodwill as the holiday season approaches. Each performance concludes with a brief presentation on the cathedral's work with the homeless in downtown San Jose, which includes providing food, shelter, medical care and employment to people in need.

The first performance, on Dec. 12, is by the San Josebased Maranatha Hope of Glory Gospel Choir and directed by David Wells. The series bows with a performance by Taylor Eigsti, a 19-year-old jazz pianist from Southern California.

Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, located at 80 S. Market St. in downtown San Jose, presents the Season of Hope Performance Series Dec. 12 to 23. Admission is free. Call 408.283.8100 or visit www.stjosephcathedral.org for more information.
