Junior League, Dons help stock toy chest

Volunteers from the Junior League of San Jose decorated and stocked Santa's Cupboard on Dec. 17 at InnVision's Georgia Travis Center on Commercial Street in San Jose as part of InnVision's annual program that provides children of homeless families with holiday toys.

The San Jose Dons Motorcycle Club and the Northside 801 Club also collected several barrels of toys and spread holiday cheer by escorting Santa and an improvised sleigh—a pick-up truck—loaded with gifts to the Georgia Travis Center on Dec. 20.

Santa's Cupboard, which gives out more than 5,000 gifts annually, provides homeless families with the opportunity to select, wrap and give gifts to their loved ones that are personal, rather than exchanging pre-wrapped gifts donated by anonymous strangers.

The Georgia Travis Center offers up to 100 homeless and at-risk women and children hot meals, baby supplies, showers, laundry services, computer training, job search counseling, classes in English as a second language, drug and alcohol counseling, medical care, legal aid, transportation, housing referrals and child care.

"This program is helping to strengthen and empower homeless families during a difficult period in their lives," InnVision Chief Operations Officer John Holland said.
