Church reminds one
reader of her history
It was so nice to see the article in the Dec. 24 issue of the Willow Glen Resident "From these Roots" include the German Church of God on Newport Avenue. My grandmother and grandfather met while attending German Church of God camp meetings in Germany in the 1920s. After World War II, my grandfather listed Church of God as the family's church affiliation on their application to immigrate to the U.S. The family was then sponsored for immigration by the Churches of God in Roseville and Sacramento. Our family owes the German Church of God many debts of gratitude.
There were, however, some things that weren't mentioned in the article. Although the services are conducted in German, there is English translation at all services, and many non-Germans attend. Also, the church membership sounded rather old in the article, but there are young families and two new babies were born into the congregation during the past two months. For children, the church has a lovely Sunday school at 10 a.m. each week, which is conducted by the pastor's wife in both German and English.
Thank you so much for your interesting article.
