Opera Guild does brunch

Members of the San Jose Opera Guild gathered Jan. 11 for their annual winter party. Brunch at Saratoga's Plumed Horse was followed by performances by Opera San José singers Christina Major and Joseph Muir and Michele and Jason Detwiler, accompanied by Simona Snitkovskaya. The organization provides preview lectures and supports both the Opera San José and the San Francisco Opera.

Marchelle Fox retirement

Friends and colleagues gathered at the Saratoga Foothill Club the evening of Dec. 10 to pay tribute to Marchelle Fox, who retired after serving as president of West Valley College since 1996. Among those honoring Fox for her 38 years of service in education was an early teacher who has maintained contact with Fox throughout her career.
