Lady Rams fall
In the Central Coast Section Division III girls basketball playoffs, Willow Glen (18-7) went up against Santa Cruz (18-10) in the first round and was eliminated with a 82-67 loss.
Santa Cruz plays in the tough Santa Cruz Coast League and is a perennial playoff contender, and their experience got the best of the Rams. Santa Cruz outscored Willow Glen 41-27 in the first half and cruised to the victory. The Rams never gave up and played evenly throughout the second half.
Senior Maja Johnson was top scorer for Willow Glen with 22 points. Two other Rams also hit double figures. Seniors Candace Gallegos and Mikka Dixon each tossed in 12 points. Senior Kiley McKown popped in seven and junior Diana Schnabel chipped in six. Sophomores Corina Lopez and Emily Roberts added four each to round out the scoring.
The lady Rams concluded a fine season, which included a co-championship in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
