Homes for Giants

The San Jose Giants are looking for host families to take in players for the 2004 summer season. Players will need accommodations for the California League season that runs April 1 through Sept. 7.

"We're looking for a family atmosphere," said Linda Pereira of the Giants' front office. "And we like the host families to become part of our family as well."

The Giants provide host families with a season pass and parking pass for games played at San Jose Municipal Stadium, and the club hosts picnics at the stadium during the year for players and their host families.

Bronco baseball

The Santa Clara University baseball program will host a Youth Spring Break Camp for players ages 5­12 at Bellomy Field on the Bronco campus. Sessions will be held April 5­7 and April 12­14, 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $125 for each session.

Baseball camp

Blossom Valley Pony Baseball will host a baseball camp for players ages 6­14 on April 10, 9 a.m.­4 p.m., at Calero Elementary School in San Jose, led by instructors from America's Baseball Camps.

The cost for the hitting and defense camp, from 9 a.m.­1 p.m., is $65 and the cost for the pitching camp, from 1:30­4 p.m., is $50.

Instructors will include Ben Boulware, a former Los Gatos High School star who went on to play in the Chicago White Sox organization, and Ron Hall, a former coach at the University of Utah. Boulware is the CEO of America's Baseball Camps.

Youth sports league

The Silicon Valley region of National Youth Sports is holding registration for boys and girls ages 4­12 interested in playing basketball, soccer, T-ball and flag football.

Seasons begin April 10, and registration forms are available at local schools or online at http://www.nationalyouthspots.biz. Teams are divided by age groups. The registration fee is $60 and the league supplies all the equipment and provides officials for soccer and basketball.

Games are played on Saturdays with basketball at Kehilla Jewish High in San Jose, near Saratoga Avenue and Highway 280, and soccer, T-ball and flag football played at Boynton High School, adjacent to the Kehilla gym.

A mandatory parents meeting will be held at Kehilla on March 27. The league will host a coaching clinic on April 3 and all coaches and players are encouraged to attend.
