Rams ace Hill

Junior Brad Kompelian and senior Nick Barreto swapped medalist honors last week as the Willow Glen boys golf team cruised to back-to-back wins over Andrew Hill last week.

Kompelian fired a 41 at the par-35 Santa Teresa Golf Course to lead the Rams to a 218-328 win over Hill.

Later in the week, Barreto cared a 4-over par 39 at Coyote Valley to pace Willow Glen to a 232-333 win over the Falcons.

Willow Glen is now 6-0 in the Santa Teresa Division.

Rams net loss

The Willow Glen badminton team lost twice in recent Santa Teresa Division competition, falling 9-6 to Yerba Buena and 10-5 to Overfelt to slip to 1-4 in division play.

The Rams, who beat Prospect 8-7 after losing to Westmont 13-2 in the first week of the league season, are 2-4 overall this year. They defeated Pioneer 9-6 but lost 14-1 to Santa Teresa in the pre-season.

Willow Glen won the West Valley Division last year, but moved up a notch to Santa Teresa play this spring.

The No. 3 boys doubles teams of Du Doan and Lehmber Singh is unbeaten this season and senior Long Nguyen at No. 1 boys singles boasts a 3-1 record.

The No. 1 boys doubles team of freshmen Jason Kuang and Bryant Chow and the No. 2 team of seniors Chris Woo and Andy Huynh are also played well for Willow Glen. Senior Tomy Giang and freshman Jonathon Nguyen are other top prospects for the Rams.

Coach Nancy Williams adds that the "girls are improving weekly." Sophomore Diem Ly Vo plays at No. 1 singles and seniors Giulietta Pezzaniti and Surleen Kaur make up the No. 1 doubles team. Anna Giang, Vicky Chow and Nancy Duong are other key players at WG.

"Our team is very inexperienced," said Williams. "This will be a rebuilding year, but we have many exciting prospects, especially among my freshmen boys."
