Hall of Fame

Lincoln High School athletic director Kevin Collins has announced that the school plans to reestablish its Athletic Hall of Fame. An induction dinner is scheduled for Aug. 21 at Lou's Village in San Jose.

Those interested in nominating an athlete for Hall of Fame recognition can find a form on the school's website at www.lincolnhighsanjose.org—click on booster club to find the Hall of Fame induction form. Nominations should be faxed to Collins at 408.535.2352 and are due by May 15.

"We've had it in years past," said Collins of the Hall of Fame. "We just want to bring back a little flavor of the past."

Giants opener

The San Jose Giants will play their California League home opener on April 16 when they host Visalia at 7 p.m. in the first game of a three-game weekend series. The Giants will meet Visalia again at 5 p.m. on April 17 and 1 p.m. on April 18, all at San Jose Municipal State. After that Modesto is in for four 7 p.m. games April 19­22. Youth soccer

The West Valley Thunderbolts, a boys under 8/9 Class 3 soccer team, are looking for position players and a goalkeeper for the coming season. For more information, email ekoff421@yahoo.com.

Golf tourney

The first annual golf tournament to benefit the Santa Clara University mens soccer team will be held at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose on May 18, with a shotgun start set for 1:30 p.m.

The tournament will be followed by a dinner, awards ceremony, auction and raffle held inside the banquet room at the golf course. The $250 registration fee includes green fees and cart, range balls, lunch and dinner. The cost is $50 for dinner only.

Scholarship

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting entries in its annual Art Rosenbaum Sports Writing Scholarship contest for high school juniors and seniors. Sports-related articles covering high school sports should be submitted by April 15 to compete for scholarships of $2,500 (first place), $1,500 (second) and $1,000 (third).
