Another meeting is set
for a proposed dog park
Dog park enthusiasts and park neighbors living near Bramhall Park and Wallenberg Park are invited to discuss their opinions about a proposed off-leash dog park at Wallenberg Park on May 4 at 7 p.m.
The San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services department is holding the meeting to gather input about some recent upgrades and future projects at Wallenberg Park.
San Jose Parks Manager Steve Roemer said the city wants to get feedback on a proposed off-leash dog park at Wallenberg Park.
Residents within 1,000 feet of Wallenberg Park will be noticed with a flier, he said.
The proposed dog park at Bramhall Park is still under consideration, but other options like Wallenberg Park are being investigated, Roemer said.
The city's parks department would also like to hear from Wallenberg Park users at the same meeting on how they like the newly remodeled restrooms and new playground equipment.
The meeting will be held on May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Willow Glen High School cafeteria, 2001 Cottle Ave.

Tennis welcome centers
are a new trend for sport
Want to improve your backhand, but don't belong to a club? No problem! San Jose Sports and Racquet Club is one of 3,000 national sports centers, public and private, that are hosting Tennis Welcome Centers.
"It's a unique concept that all the tennis associations are doing to get people into tennis," said San Jose Sports and Racquet Club Center Director of Tennis Ken DeHart.
People who are interested in learning tennis can go to the Tennis Welcome Center's website at www.tenniswelcomecenter.com for the closest program in their area.
DeHart said people do not have to belong to the club or center where the drop-in clinics are held, but there is a charge for the lessons.
The United States Tennis Association is holding a program introduction at the San Jose Sports and Racquet Club on April 29 between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Wayne Bryan, who helped win the Davis Cup for the United States, will give a demonstration and speak. Food will also be available. For more information, contact Ken DeHart at 408.892.3806.

Cinco de Mayo events
reenacted at school
While May 5 is recognized as Mexico's Independence Day, Cinco De Mayo actually commemorates the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
To honor this day in history, Willow Glen residents are invited to attend Schallenberger Elementary School's annual Cinco de Mayo celebration on April 29 at 9:30 a.m. on the school's playground. There will be colorful costumes, dancing and a reenactment of the Battle of Puebla.
For more information about the event, contact Schallenberger Elementary School, 1280 Koch Lane, at 408.535.6253.
