Acoustic music goes live
at Willow Glen Library

The younger set has story time, but what does the library offer its teen crowd? The answer is easy—music.

After reviewing a survey given to teens who frequent the Willow Glen branch, the library decided to bring live music to its steps.

The alternative rock band Substance will be performing for teens on the patio of the Willow Glen Library on May 21 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is a first for the library, Willow Glen branch librarian Susan Eby said.

The musicians performing include drummer Luke Cummingham, who works at the Willow Glen branch as a library aide, guitar player Chris Odell, singer Brian Ballard and bass guitarist Danny Bush.

The entertainment will also include refreshments, which will be provided by the Friends of the Willow Glen Library. The Willow Glen branch is located at 1157 Minnesota Ave.

North Willow Glen gets noticed for its efforts

The North Willow Glen Neighborhood Association is working to make the environment and community cleaner and greener.

And for its efforts the association was recognized by the nonprofit Our City Forest at the organization's 10th anniversary celebration on May 7.

Our City Forest, which commended eight San Jose neighborhoods, singled out the North Willow Glen neighborhood for special merit, giving it an award for community spirit.

North Willow Glen has had two tree-planting drives in the past year, with area residents planting more than 40 street trees in partnership with Our City Forest.
