Burglary on Lester Avenue sparks warning from police
By Amy Wicks
An attempted burglary in a Lester Avenue home was stopped after a Willow Glen homeowner screamed, causing the individual to flee.

At 2:10 a.m. on July 21, an individual described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s with blue or green eyes, a brown shirt and a flat-top haircut took advantage of a "popped open window" to break into the home, according to San Jose police spokeswoman Gina Tepoorten.

The female resident, who lives alone, was awoken by the man climbing through her bedroom window and screamed for him to leave. He fled through the backyard.

The 42-year-old woman saw what the man looked like as he ran away because the porch light was on. But she did not recognize him, said Tepoorten.

Tepoorten also said that during hot summer nights, the police recommends that residents keep their windows closed and locked to prevent this type of crime from happening to them, especially if the homeowner is a female living alone.

The police believe this was an attempted burglary, and that it is not related to the four burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours of July 13 and 14 in occupied residences in downtown San Jose. Those incidents were in the areas of the 400 block of S. Second Street, 600 block of S. Ninth Street and the 500 block of S. 15th Street.
