Special Olympics

Volunteers are needed for the Special Olympics of Northern California Silicon Valley Region fall season that includes soccer, distance running and walking, and powerlifting.

More information on the Special Olympics program will be available at a fall volunteer orientation on Aug. 10, 7 p.m., at the Hoover Community Center, corner of Park and Naglee in San Jose. For more information, call 408.392.0170, or visit www.sonc.org.

Junior nationals

The National Club Swimming Association Junior National Championships will be held at Stanford University's Avery Aquatics Center Aug. 9­13.

Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics and NCSA are the hosts of the event, which opens Aug. 9 with one session 4­8 p.m. Two sessions are set for each of the next four days, with trials held 9 a.m.­noon and finals beginning at 6 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for youth.

Day with Giants

Sunday Friends will be making friends on Saturday night when the nonprofit organization hosts a night with the San Jose Giants on Aug. 21, 5 p.m., at San Jose Municipal Stadium.

Tickets are priced at four for $25 or 20 for $100 will all proceeds going to the Sunday Friends Foundation, which supports the homeless and very low income families in San Jose. Gates open at 3:30 p.m., and ticket discounts are only available in advance through Sunday Friends.

Camp With the Pros

South Bay Baseball will present the annual Camp With the Pros summer baseball camp series.

Baseball camps will be held Aug. 9­13 at the Union Little League field and Aug. 16­20 at the Lincoln Glen Little League field. The cost is $129 per camper and camp hours are 9 a.m.­1 p.m. each day.

Instructors include camp director Roger Samuels, a former pitcher for the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates; Mark Cummins, a former professional infielder and the longtime head baseball coach at Live Oak High School; and Ernie Broglio, a former 20-game winner for the St. Louis Cardinals.
