Camp With the Pros

A "Camp With the Pros" summer baseball camp will be held Aug. 16­20 at the Lincoln Glen Little League field. Cost is $129 per camper and camp hours are 9 a.m.­1 p.m. each day.

Instructors include camp director Roger Samuels, a former pitcher for the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates; Mark Cummins, a former professional infielder and the longtime head baseball coach at Live Oak High School; and Ernie Broglio, a former 20-game winner for the St. Louis Cardinals.For more information, call Samuels at 408.264.0396.

Youth volleyball

The United States Youth Volleyball League is accepting registration for its fall program in San Jose. The league is open to players aged 8­14. A fee of $115 per player includes an eight-week season. Registration deadline is Aug. 25. The league runs Tuesdays, 5:30­6:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 10­11 a.m., at Kirk Community Center. Call 1.888.988.7985. or visit www.USYVL.org.

Strikkers tryouts

The Strikkers fastpitch softball organization have scheduled tryouts for its five age-group fall teams. Tryouts for the 10U, 12U, 14U and teams are set for Saturday, Aug. 21, Sunday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 29, at Oak Grove High School. For specific times, call Ernie Garcia at 408.281.7855.

Youth soccer

Training sessions and tryouts for a girls under 14 comp soccer team will be held at Del Mar High School under the direction of a former MLS coach. For more information, call Tom at 408.872.3134.

Vintage baseball

A new vintage baseball league for players aged 18-55 is being formed. Teams will play with the rules, equipment and uniforms of 1886. Games are not planned to be competitive, but will be designed for people who want to learn about the history of baseball. Rugby nationals
