The USA All-Star 7-Aside Rugby Championships will be in San Jose on Aug. 28­29. Eight men's and eight women's teams will compete at Watson Bowl, located between Taylor and Jackson Streets near 23rd.

The event, hosted by the San Jose Seahawks Rugby Club, will feature many of the nation's top players. Action is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday. Sting tryouts

Tryouts for the San Jose Sting fastpitch softball organization fall teams will be held at West Valley College this weekend. The 14U tryouts are set for Saturday, Aug. 28, while the 16U and 18U tryouts are set for Sunday, Aug. 29. For each session, catchers and pitchers work out 9:30-10:30 a.m. and position players 10:30-noon. Tryouts for the 18-Gold squad will be held Sunday afternoon. Catchers and pitchers are due at 1 p.m. and position players at 2 p.m.

Gard golf event

The fourth annual Michael A. Gard Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 16 at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club. The cost of $175 includes green fees, a cart, balls, lunch, dinner, a polo shirt and a chance to win $25,000 for a hole-in-one. Proceeds from the tourney will aid those who cannot afford cancer screening.
