Quick Stop Market on
Cherry Ave. is robbed

The San Jose Police Department is searching for two individuals, a man and a woman who were involved in an armed robbery that occurred on Sept. 4th at 3:40 a.m.

The two adults entered the Quick Stop Market at 4607 Cherry Ave. The man brandished a handgun at the clerk and raided the cash register and drop box, stealing an undisclosed amount of money from the store. The individuals then fled on foot and are still at large.

According to San Jose police spokeswoman Gina Teeporten, the man was described as African American, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing between 165 and 175 pounds. He was wearing a red bandanna with a black-hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Teeporten said the woman was described as African American, between the ages of 25 and 28, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds. She was either wearing a red bandanna or had red-dyed hair and was also wearing an Oakland Raiders sweatshirt with the hood over her head.

Hear ye, hear ye, it's
time for a book fair

Willow Glen Elementary School invites all bookworms to indulge their literary bent and help nurture the passion for reading in the next generation of literature lovers.

The school will host a book fair at the Willow Glen Farmer's Market on Sept. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Proceeds from the book fair will purchase books and materials for the school's library.

Local library branch is
geared up for storytime

The Willow Glen Library is gearing up for its fall season and has initiated a new children's program targeted at bookworms in the making. The storytime crowds ages 8 months to 2 years old are welcome to the Lapsit Storytime that is scheduled for every Friday from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.

The fall program is funded by a $4,000 grant from Target Stores. The grant was awarded to the Friends of the Willow Glen Library to help promote a love of reading in young readers and to encourage children to read together with their families.

Junior League brings
fashion to downtown

The latest in fashion is hitting the runway, and the proceeds benefit a variety of programs within the San Jose community.

The Junior League of San Jose and Nordstrom are teaming up for the annual Classic Chic Fashion Show at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose. The two-day event brings together fashion, food, entertainment, dancing and a wide range of auction items.

In the last year the league contributed more than 27,500 volunteer hours for philanthropic causes throughout the San Jose area.

The fashion shows and luncheons on Sept. 16 and 17 begin at 11 a.m. The Sept. 18 black-tie gourmet dinner and fashion show starts at 6 p.m.
