City Forest is helping
green up Willow Glen
Nonprofit organization Our City Forest brings a tree canopy to California Avenue on Oct. 30, but it's looking to residents to give the project root.
Our City Forest needs volunteers for the planting of 12 trees and will provide a "tree amigo" for training at 9 a.m. The planting will be held rain or shine and will run about three hours. Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing, closed-toed shoes, garden gloves and hat.
The Willow Glen planting is part of the organization's citywide effort to "create a tree canopy in our urban forest."

Stone Church is located at 1108 Clark Way. For more information, contact Dale Bracey at 408.773.8055.

Fuller Park budget is
OK'd by the SJ council
The three vacant lots on Fuller Avenue in the Greater Gardner area of Willow Glen will finally be converted into a park.
Local residents, who lobbied for more than a decade for the change and who have kept up with the day-to-day maintenance of the lots, hail the city council's approval of $500,000 needed to transform the area in what will be called Fuller Park.
The funds were originally promised in the 200405 redevelopment operating budget but were reallocated to 200506 budget during the summer. The North Willow Glen Neighborhood Association, however, lobbied San Jose District 6 Councilman Ken Yeager to transfer funding back to the 200405 budget year. Their efforts were reflected in Mayor Ron Gonzales' proposed redevelopment agency budget.
Association members spoke in favor of the park's funding at the Oct. 13 city council meeting, and the request was unanimously approved by the city council as part of the mayor's redevelopment budget request.
The department of parks, recreation and neighborhood services will begin construction on the lots next year. The revamped area will include an irrigation system, improved landscaping, benches and fences.
