Head to the polls Tuesday and vote
By Moryt Milo
According to my son, voting should be mandatory for every U.S. citizen 18 years of age and older. And he suggests sweetening the process by providing voters with an interesting incentive—a tax break—which citizens would receive by turning in their ballot receipt when filing their annual return.

Now, he hasn't figured out all the logistics, but he has keyed into an issue he hears a lot at home, as I often wonder aloud, "What does it take to get people to the polls?"

This year looks like the turnout might finally be something to smile about. With the biggest presidential race in decades and pollsters showing the candidates in a virtual deadlock, depending on what survey you read, more citizens than ever may finally employ one of the democratic processes that makes our country so great by voting on Nov. 2 .

Now, if you are a registered voter (those who aren't should be ashamed), don't get lazy this November and decide at the last minute that you don't have time. Make the time and get out there. We have school board candidates in Willow Glen, and measures and propositions to decide in our county and state.

And if you can't get to the polls, fill out that absentee ballot and send it in. We are at a pivotal time in history, and being apathetic equates to a national mental disaster, one our country can ill afford.

So until that tax-incentive idea of my son's makes it through Congress and onto the books, show your red, white and blue and do what other countries only dream about. Get out of the house and into the booth next Tuesday.
