Merchants treated all
to a terrific Halloween

I just wanted to extend a great big thank you to the merchants on Lincoln Avenue. It seems they did everything they could to make trick-or-treating a fun experience for the kids in this community.

Safety on Lincoln Ave.
has not been solved

Recently I wrote to our councilman Ken Yeager—an advocate for pedestrian safety in Willow Glen—about the still-unresolved and very dangerous situation on Lincoln Avenue.

I wanted him to know that Lincoln Avenue continues to remain an unsafe place for pedestrians to cross despite the recently installed blinking signs and the markers in the middle of the streets.

On Oct. 29, the day that saw many parents with small children parading up and down and across the streets for Halloween, I was almost hit. Although it is the law to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, people traveling down Lincoln Avenue are in too big of a hurry to want to stop. When you are fortunate to have one or two cars stop for you, you are still faced with the precarious task of keeping your eyes on cars that are coming in the opposite direction or from the second lane. If one car stops, the car next to it often times does not.

The newly installed blinking signs are extremely ineffective because they are hard to see. And, it still leaves the problem of drivers going too fast to stop in time to prevent hitting a pedestrian.

It is time that Willow Glen follows in the footsteps of other downtown communities such as Palo Alto, Los Altos, Saratoga and Los Gatos and converts the two lanes in each direction into one lane each way. This would enable the shopping district to have more parking and would force people to slow down and yield to pedestrians. Why should we have to give up safety so that people who live in Almaden Valley can get home quicker?

I urge our councilman to review this matter before a life is lost. Let's not wait for someone to die before this issue is resolved.
