Mitty wins title

Lacey Gera, Katie Glomb and Lisa Gera of Willow Glen were members of the Archbishop Mitty girls volleyball team that won the State Division II championship this fall.

Lacey Gera, a 6-foot-1 junior, was named to the all-tournament team at state. Gera, along with her sister Lisa, a senior setter and defensive specialist, and Glomb, a senior defensive specialist, all attended St. Christopher's School in Willow Glen before going on to Mitty.

K.C. Walsh, whose sister Kerri won an Olympic gold medal in volleyball this past summer, was also named to the all-tournament team for Mitty, and teammate Erin Downey was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Senior Carrie Estill was named the tourney's Most Inspirational Player.

The Gera sisters are the daughters of Steve and Linda Gera of Willow Glen. Steve Gera attended Mitty and is a member of the school's Sports Hall of Fame.

 

WGLL sign-ups

The Willow Glen Little League is holding online registration for players aged 5­18 for the 2005 baseball season.

All new players must provide proof of age (birth certificate or passport) and all players must provide proof of residency (utility or property tax bill).

Following online registration, players must present their eligibility documents at a verification night on Jan. 13, 6­9 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1336 Cherry Ave. (between Willow Street and Minnesota Avenue).

Fees paid prior to Dec 31 are $110 for players ages 5­12 and $120 for players ages 13­18. Fees paid after Dec 31 are $135 and $145. Tryouts for players ages 8­12 will be held on Jan 15 and Jan 22.

Soccer camp

The De Anza Community College soccer team will host a holiday soccer camp for players ages 5­15 on the school's campus. The camp will be held Dec. 20, 21, 22 and 23, 9:30 a.m.­12:15 p.m. each day, and the cost for the four-day camp is $90. For more information, call 408.864.8745.

 

SCU baseball

The Santa Clara University baseball coaching staff will host a holiday kids camp for children ages 6­12 to be held Dec. 20­23 in two sessions--9 a.m.­noon and 1­4 p.m. The cost is $100 per session or $175 for both sessions. The camp will focus on basic fundamentals.
