Spa holds meeting to
discuss construction

On Jan. 10, the San Jose Planning Department and Arbitare Architecture will hold a second community meeting regarding the proposed La Concha Spa development at 1030 Lincoln Ave.

Owner Gloria Maciel is applying for a conditional use permit to construct a new building on the lot, which is currently vacant. If the application is approved, Maciel will relocate her existing business into the new building.

The meeting will include a presentation with floor plans, elevation renderings, and three-dimensional drawings. After the presentation, members of the community are invited to ask questions and provide feedback.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., and will take place in the small conference room at the Willow Glen United Methodist Church, 1420 Newport Ave. For more information, contact project manager Ed Schreiner at 408. 277.4576.

New Kumon learning
will have open house

Willow Glen Kumon Math & Reading Center invites parents and children to its grand opening on Jan. 9. The supplemental education company will open its doors from 9 a.m. to noon., with a 10 a.m. presentation. Parent orientation and free placement tests for students will be offered.

Kumon, founded in Japan in 1958, is an after-school math and reading program that utilizes a systematic approach. Students visit the center several times a week and progress through a set curriculum at their own pace. According to Willow Glen Kumon instructor Steve Wu, the program helps increase confidence, concentration and more effective study habits.

The center, located at 1261 Lincoln Ave. in suites 101 and 102, began holding classes in mid-December. Kumon is available to all ages and skill levels. after-school classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more information call 408.995.6540 or 408.867.5367.
