It's official: D's Bar and Restaurant is now closed.
On Feb. 12, the establishment located at 1180 Lincoln Ave. shut down its business, according to co-owner Florence O'Sullivan.
D's, which was only open since October, was not able to generate enough revenue to break even. O'Sullivan cited neighborhood complaints to the San Jose Police Department, District 6 Councilman Ken Yeager's office and the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association about ongoing conditional use permit violations—staying open until 2 a.m. on weekends—as a contributing factor.
"It's what the neighbors want," said O'Sullivan, who denies that after-hour use was a problem.
Willow Glen Neighborhood Association President Helen Solinski said she was disappointed to see a small business fail.
"The Willow Glen Neighborhood Association has put a lot of time and energy into this," she said. "It's sad the issues couldn't be resolved. I'm sorry to see a business not being able to survive on Lincoln Avenue."
At the Nov. 10 neighborhood association meeting, D's owners discussed residents' concerns and indicated that they wanted to work with the community. But noise and late-night complains continued through year's end, according to San Jose Code Enforcement Deputy Director Mike Hannon.
Solinski said, "I'm hoping the next business understands their conditional use permit before they open," Solinski said. "The neighborhood association will continue to stay involved."
