Quakes rally

Fans of the San Jose Earthquakes will have the opportunity to meet and greet the players and coaches of the 2005 team at a Meet The Quakes Rally on March 31, 5 p.m., in the Plaza de Cesar Chavez in San Jose. Quakes play-by-play announcer John Shrader will emcee the event that is jointly sponsored by the Earthquakes, Soccer Silicon Valley and the San Jose Sports Authority.

The Earthquakes' season begins on April 2, 7 p.m., against the New England Revolution at Spartan Stadium.

Soccer camp

Jorge Espinoza, coach of the Del Mar girls soccer team that tied for the championship in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League this winter, will host a spring youth soccer camp in west San Jose during the week of April 1115.

The camp, which will stress fundamentals and advanced training, will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day and the cost is $125. For more information, call Tom Morman at 408.872.3134.

Lacrosse action

Players from the South Valley Lacrosse organization will be on the floor for an exhibition game against a team from Berkeley before and at halftime of the San Jose Stealth professional game against Anaheim on March 25, 7:30 p.m., at the HP Pavilion.

South Valley Lacrosse fields two teams--the Pups (fifth- and sixth-graders) and the Pee Wees (third- and fourth-graders). For more information on the organization, visit www.southvalleylacrosse.com.

Giants need homes

The San Jose Giants are looking for summer housing for players on the California League Class A ballclub. The minor league team, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, needs host families to accommodate players from April 3 through Sept. 10.

Host families will receive a San Jose Giants season pass and parking pass, and there will also be two picnics for families, players and other members of the Giants organization.

"It's a rewarding experience for the whole family," said Linda Pereira of the San Jose Giants. "And it's a very unique experience to get to know the players here then see them go on to the big leagues."

For more information on hosting a player, contact Pereira at 408.297. 1435, ext. 19.
