When Lauren Albin hits the runway at Presentation High School's scholarship fashion show, she'll be modeling the latest styles from the Willow Glen boutique Barbarella.
But Lauren, a Willow Glen resident, isn't concerned so much with fashion as with having fun.
"It's a tradition for seniors," she says. "Most of us are just there to have a good time."
Seniors who apply to model in Presentation's fashion show are chosen based on their high school activities and community service. Lauren has been on the school's soccer, cross-country and track and field teams and has served as president of the math club.
Lauren says the model-selection process is not just about who has the best grade point average.
"The committee doesn't look at grades so much, just at how well you've served the school," she says.
Lauren hasn't decided where she'll continue her education but is leaning toward Stanford University, with humanities or biology as possible majors. A career in fashion, she says, is not in her future.
"I love going shopping. What girl doesn't?" she adds. "But it's not a big part of my life. At an all-girls school, you kind of forget about it."
Still, Lauren is looking forward to trading in her school uniform for something more chic during the fashion show.
"A lot of my friends applied to be models, so I figured it would be a good way to finish my senior year," she says.
Willow Glen resident Monica Alba will also model in the fashion show, which is scheduled for April 15 at San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
This year's show, "Friday Night Fever," will feature Presentation seniors, faculty, board members, alumni and senior boys from area high schools. The models will be wearing La Coste, Cache, Club Monaco, Eddie Bauer, Talbot's, Tommy Bahama, Eli Thomas Menswear, Indigo Palms, Lucky Brand, Trudy's and Urban Outfitters.
A highlight of the show is the grand finale, when fathers escort their daughters down the runway. Last year's show raised almost $90,000 for Presentation's scholarship fund. The event is the school's major scholarship fundraiser.
Tickets for the luncheon show are $80 per person. Dinner tickets are $135 per person. The evening event includes dancing to music provided by King Raffi, a DJ at KEZR-106.5 FM.
