Todd Meeker yelled to his son, "Just hit it out." And being the dutiful son that he is, Taylor Meeker did just that.
Young Meeker stepped to the plate with a runner on base in bottom of the sixth and his Lincoln Glen Little League club trailing Quito 1-0 in the opening round game of the District 12 major division Tournament of Champions.
Taylor, a 10-year-old lefty who listens to his father, took one swing and sent the ball flying over the right field wall for a two-run walk off home run.
Lincoln Glen defeated Quito 2-1 on June 11 after a well-played game by both teams in the TOC game at the Almaden Little League field.
Quito had taken an early lead with a run in the third off of three singles.
Lincoln Glen had the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, but failed to score.
Lincoln Glen held Quito in the top of the sixth and manager Xavier De La Rocha asked his team if they wanted to practice again or have the season end. They obviously wanted to play on.
Jason De La Rocha led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk on seven pitches after fighting back from a 1-2 count. With De La Rocha on base, Taylor Meeker blasted his game-winning homer.
Lincoln Glen will return to Almaden on June 14, 5:30 p.m., to face the Almaden South-Saratoga winner. The championship game will be held June 15, 5:30 p.m., at Almaden.
Willow Glen was also victorious in first round TOC play, beating Los Gatos National 5-4. The game was tied at four going into the bottom of the fifth when Willow Glen scored the go-ahead run.
With one out, Max Levine drew a walk and Terrence Formico singled. After Levine was caught at home trying to score on a passed ball, James Johnson ripped a single to drive in Formico.
Willow Glen scored two runs each in the second and third innings. Scott Beasley drew a walk to open up second. After a strikeout and two passed balls, Carter Reiners reached on an that scored Beasley. Bret Linvill also reached on an error and Reiners scored on a passed ball.
With one out in the bottom of the third, Formico walked and Johnson drove him in with a single. Johnson later scored on a passed ball.
Willow Glen was to face Almaden North on June 13 with the winner playing again on June 14, 5:30 p.m.
