Lacrosse clinics, sports camps
slated for youth this summer

Lacrosse is arguably the fastest growing sport in Northern California, and young players who would like to get in on the action will get the chance this summer--thanks to Girls Lacrosse of San Jose.

The club will host clinics and scrimmages for new and experienced players on Tuesdays through Aug. 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Kirk Community Center, 1601 Foxworthy Ave. Girls in the third grade through high school are eligible.

Girls Lacrosse of San Jose features two teams for middle school players--the San Jose Extreme--and a new club team for high school players. The club is also starting a developmental team for third and fourth graders.

The cost is $5 per session and girls are encouraged to join U.S. Lacrosse for a $20 annual membership fee. Sticks will be provided but girls should bring a mouth guard, lacrosse goggles and water.

The West Valley Youth Soccer League will host a Major League Soccer camp for players of all ability levels will be held Aug. 8-12, 9 a.m.-noon each day. Basketball camps

The San José State University men's basketball program will hold a summer basketball camp for players ages 7-18 on Aug. 8-11. Camp hours run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and early drop-off (7:45 a.m.) and late pick-up (5:30 p.m.) is available.

Bronco baseball

Santa Clara University will offer a senior baseball camps for youth this summer: Kids Camp for players ages 6-12 on July 11-15, Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12; a High School Overnight Camp for players in grades 9-12 on July 27-31; and an All Skills Camp on Aug. 15-17, 9:30 a.m.-noon each day.

Football camp

The Competitive Edge Football Camp will be held July 11-13 at San José City College. The three-day full contact, full gear camp will stress offensive and defensive fundamentals for high school teams.
