Lincoln Glen 10s reach district semifinals
By Kevin Sparrer
The powerhouse returns.

Lincoln Glen Little League dominated the District 12 all-star tournaments last year, walking away with championships in all but one age category. The 10-year-old all-stars this year are doing their best to defend their title in the tournament held on their own field.

Lincoln Glen lost to Saratoga to create a three-way tie for the title in the north pool of the tournament. Saratoga, Lincoln Glen and Cambrian Park were all entering the last day of pool play with 2-1 records and one game to play. Despite the loss to Saratoga, Lincoln Glen advanced to the tourney semifinals against Cambrian Park on July 18. Saratoga was to play Los Gatos National. The winners advance to the tourney championship game on July 19 at Lincoln Glen.

Though Lincoln Glen lost to Saratoga 3-1, the local club was not without its moments of hope. After trailing 3-0 for the majority of the game, Lincoln Glen fought back in the bottom of the sixth for a run and threatened to take the game from Saratoga.

Cole Carnahan led off the inning with a double to the center field wall and scored when Taylor Meeker reached on a throwing error by the second baseman. Meeker advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a line drive base hit by Tucker Bacon. Saratoga brought in a relief pitcher who struck out the first batter he faced, but only after Bacon stole second to put the tying run in scoring position.

Jimmy Riley ripped a looping liner to the right side that was snagged by the first baseman. After taking the count to 3-2, Marquis Onorato drew a walk to load the bases, but Graham Moore popped up to the second baseman to end the game.

Justin Bruce, Riley and Onorato also had hits for Lincoln Glen.

Earlier in the week, Lincoln Glen downed Branham Hills 5-2. Onorato was the big hitter with three solid hits and he scored a run. Riler was singled, tripled and scored twice. Moore singled, doubled and scored, Bacon doubled twice, Carnahan tripled, Troy Paskert singled, Danny Schatzman singled and scored a run and Bruce singled.

In its first game of the tournament Lincoln Glen beat Almaden South 7-2. Bacon singled twice, walked twice and scored twice in the win. Riley singled and doubled, Meeker singled and walked twice, Joey Sullivan singled, Carnahan doubled, and Bruce, Onorato and Moore each singled.
