aren't first in line

This is in response to last week's letter in the Willow Glen Resident ("People want a dog park in Willow Glen," July 27).

The first thing I would like to say is location, location, and location. What the heck are people thinking?

Sure, the majority of the people who would like a dog park at Wallenberg don't live in close proximity to the park. Are people so selfish that they don't care who it affects as long as they get what they want? When do dogs take precedence over human beings?

I have four children who attend Willow Glen High and Willow Middle schools, and when they walk to school, like many other children, they walk through Wallenberg Park, right past the area proposed to put in the dog park site. This will make it a literal "petting zoo." I am sure the majority of dogs are "nice," but as we have seen in the news lately, some dogs bite.

It would only take one dog to bite one child, and that should be reason enough to chose a different, safer location.

I am also shocked that because of the budget cuts, the parks and recreation department is cutting back on park maintenance ("Budget cuts hit parks, but folks won't notice for a while," July 27). Who is supposed to clean up and empty the dog waste?

Yes, $500,000 to $1 million allocated to build the dog park, but no money for the upkeep?

No, Ellen Coleman, not everyone wants a dog park in their front yard. It's the 10 percent of dog owners who scare me.
