Hockey volunteers

The 2005 Roller Hockey World Championships will be held Aug. 6-13 at the San José State University Event Center, and volunteers are needed to help with operations, program sales, media assistance and as team escorts.

This marks the first time that the United States has hosted the event that features the top 16 national teams in the world, including defending champion Portugal, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, France, Switzerland, Angola, Chile, Mozambique, Holland, Germany, U.S., England, Andorra and Macau.

Kids Count!

The first ever Kids Count! 5K Run/Walk will be held Aug. 6 at the Jubilee Christian Center, 105 Nortech Parkway, San Jose. The event is a benefit for Jubliee's youth and children's center.

The fee is $25 for those 18 and over, $20 for youth ages 11-17, $10 for children 5-10 in the 5K and $5 for children competing in one of the two 10 a.m. "Kiddie Dashes."
