Palm Haven gears
up for home tour
Palm Haven will kick off its annual home tour with a trip back in time on Sept. 10.
An evening tour will transport visitors back to Sept. 8, 1927, the eve of the election to incorporate Willow Glen as a city. The home of Lewis Bohnett will be on the tour. Bohnett is largely credited with incorporating Willow Glen and carrying his fight with the Southern Pacific Railroad all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In keeping with the theme, docents will wear period dress and vintage autos from the 1920s will meander through the historic neighborhood.
Michael Borbely, Palm Haven Restoration Committee president, said a few lucky guests will get to ride in the vintage cars.

Golfing for soldiers
at Cinnabar Hills
Willow Glen-based Iron Construction is hosting its 2005 Charity Golf Classic to benefit American Red Cross' Operation: Care and Comfort program. The golf tournament will be held at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose's Coyote Valley on Sept. 13.
Operation: Care and Comfort sends care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Willow Glen resident and Red Cross volunteer Julie DeMaria said the program adopts up to 40 military units and sends care packages monthly. To date, the program has shipped 113,000 pounds of goods overseas.
DeMaria said the golf tournament fundraiser will benefit the program's holiday drive. From October to Nov. 15, volunteers will send out packages filled with hygiene items, clothing and snack food. The packages will also include Christmas and Hanukah cards so soldiers can write to their families and send the cards home in time for the holidays.
For more information about the golf tournament, call 408.282.1080 or email mary@ironconstruction.com. Operation: Care and Comfort can be found at www.operationcareandcomfort.org.

Volunteers sought
to help with park

The $340 million project is unique in its combination of flood protection, recreation open space, and the preservation of an environmental area that is home to fish, birds and other wildlife.
The celebration will feature free activities and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at multiple areas throughout the park and at the adjacent Guadalupe Gardens.
Interested volunteers can visit www.grpg.org, email grandopening@ grpg.org or call volunteer coordinator Lucy Perez at 408.298.7657 for more information.
