When protesting, make
sure the logic is there
The Aug 24 story in the Willow Glen Resident ( 'Vigil supports Vacaville anti-mom's war efforts,') on the Sheehan candlelight vigils got my ire up.
First, this is media bias at its finest. .Would a group of 200 people holding a vigil to support the war, Bush, or any other conservative cause make the news? The answer is no. Even if hundreds of these "conservative" vigils took place around the country, it would be ignored by the press.
The press only focuses on the thousands of insurgents in Iraq (most of whom are imports), as opposed to the 25 million who cry out to enjoy the life and liberty that the media takes for granted.
Second, I want to know if all the people who participated in the vigil in Willow Glen really support Sheehan as their signs suggested. Why? Because if they truly do, then they support her contention that Bush is a greater terrorist than Bin Laden.
Most, if not all, reasonable people (irrespective of their political views) will recognize that this is an absurd statement. Also, these people dishonor those who serve, and worse, those who have lost their lives.
Sheehan's own family stated that she dishonors her own son's life and service by her actions. Casey Sheehan re-enlisted in 2004 knowing full well he would either see Iraq or another spot in the Middle East. In fact, Casey volunteered for the mission that saw his vehicle the target of an RPG that took his life.
Do the vigil participants know this? The Sheehan supporters can't fathom the fact that Casey (or anyone for that matter) could have this dedication, honor and sacrifice to a cause that they personally revile.
Before going around holding up a sign with Sheehan's name on it, I suggest these protesters do some homework on what Sheehan actually stands for and what comes out of her mouth.
These objectors think it's more noble to let millions of people suffer under brutal dictatorships around the world than to step in to help the helpless.
Go ahead and protest, but be sure the objectives for doing so are clear. And be willing to defend that stand to the very end, just like those who protect the rights of the vigil supporters.

Vigil protesters want
soldiers safely home
Thank you for covering the vigil in support of Cindy Sheehan ( 'Vigil supports Vacaville anti-mom's war efforts,' Aug. 24).
I believe that the best way to support the troops is to bring them home safely now from this illegal Iraqi war on Iraq (and support them once they've returned too).
I'd like to tell the readers who want to get involved in the local anti-war movement to join our new google group by writing us at wgpeaceaction@googlegroups.com. Thanks again.

Bring in the B-2s to
end the Iraqi war
The peace protesters may think they are doing the right thing, but I think they are going about it in the wrong way ( 'Vigil supports Vacaville anti-mom's war efforts,' Aug. 24).
They should be demanding that President Bush explain why the world's mightiest air force is gathering dust and rust while he is having these kids fight a war door to door Stalingrad-style, with one hand tied behind their back.
As I personally know, we would still be fighting World War II if we hadn't used air power. This is the reason we lost both the Korean and the Vietnam wars. (Although Washington planned it that way.)
So, I think that you good people, and Cindy Sheehan, should insist that Bush send in the B-2s, and, after giving the women and children notice and time to escape, bomb the Sunni Triangle to rubble, and bring the troops home the next day. Mission accomplished.

The Aug. 24 article about the Santa Clara County supervisors race said that District 4 includes the neighborhoods of Willow Glen, Rose Garden, Cambrian, Park, Cory, Hamann Park, Burbank and Sherman Oaks. Only a portion of Willow Glen is in District 4. That area is west of Meridian Avenue and south of Curtner Avenue. Most of Willow Glen is located in District 2.
The Aug. 24 story that ran in the Willow Glen Resident should have read 'Beall termed out; four run for county supervisor in District 4.'
